A Study on the Neighbourhood Effect of Villagers'Volunteerism——Based on the Theoretical Perspective of Social Interaction
Based on the reality of the rural neighborhood environment to examine the behavior of villagers volunteering decision,it is important to stimulate the enthusiasm of villagers volunteering, and then contribute to the common prosperity of rural farmers. From the perspective of social interaction, using village communities as the reference cohort and the 2021 China Comprehensive Social Conditions Survey(CSS)data,we theoretically derived and empirically tested the neighborhood effect of villagers'volunteerism, and further examined the internal mechanism of the neighborhood effect, and the heterogeneity of village community types. The study found that:there is a significant neighborhood effect of villagers'volunteerism:for every 1 unit increase in the volunteer activities of other villagers in the village community, the probability of villagers'participation in volunteerism increases by 15.7%—26.7%:the transfer of information among villagers and the social norms formed within the village community are important channels through which the neighborhood effect works:The existence of social normative mechanisms makes united village communities with a more complete clan structure more likely to generate the neighborhood effect of villagers'volunteerism, followed by divided village communities with multiple small kin groups coexisting, and again by atomized and decentralized village communities. The findings of the study provide theoretical references and empirical lessons for the improvement of the incentive mechanism of rural volunteerism and the effectiveness of related policies.
