The Influence of Digital Economy on the Re-employment of the Retired Elderly——Based on Institutional Theory Perspective
Re-employment serves as a crucial means for the elderly to achieve"productive old age".The digital economy has emerged as a significant catalyst in enhancing the re-employment prospects of retired seniors through its utilization of information and communication technology.Drawing on data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Survey, this study empirically examines the impact and mechanisms by which the digital economy influences re-employment among retired individuals. The findings reveal that the development of the digital economy effectively enhances the likelihood of re-employment for retirees, with particularly pronounced positive effects observed among urban dwellers, those with middle-income levels, and individuals benefiting from high social security provisions. These impacts are primarily mediated through mechanisms such as job creation, information dissemination, and threshold access effects.Further from the perspective of institutional theory,it is evident that the digital economy plays a more prominent role in facilitating the re-employment of retired elderly individuals, particularly when influenced by a favorable social contract environment and Confucian culture.
