Study on the Impact of Social Interaction Involution on the Employment Quality of Migrant Workers in Cities
Achieving high-quality employment for migrant workers is an important way to address income inequality and achieve common prosperity.Based on the 2017 China Migrants Dynamic Survey(CMDS)data, the paper constructs OLS and Probit regression models to explore the effect and explores mechanisms that social interaction involution affect the employment quality of migrant workers entering cities. The result shows social interaction involution significantly inhibits the improvement of the employment quality of migrant workers in cities. The results of the multidimensional regression show that social interaction involution inhibits the signing of labor contracts and the acquisition of medical insurance for migrant workers, while also increasing working hours. However,it has not been found that the social interaction involution has a negative impact on their salary levels. The mechanism test found that social interaction involution suppresses the improvement of employment quality for migrant workers entering cities by reducing their willingness to stay, reducing union participation, and strengthening employment discrimination.Heterogeneity analysis shows that the internalization of social interactions has a greater impact on the employment quality of the"new generation"of migrant workers. Therefore,it is necessary to deepen the urban integration of migrant workers entering the city, optimize institutional design and strengthen labor supervision, promote the long-term residence willingness of migrant workers, and increase investment in education and training.
