Wood/jute/polypropylene (PP) fiber panels are used forautomotive interior trims when fiber mat is hot pressed into composite panels.Prior to pressing, the fiber mats were impregnated with water-soluble ammonium polyphosphate fire retardant, and then the fire retardant effectiveness for the panels was tested. The test result indicated that water absorption and fire retardancy were all improved but the modulus of rupture (MOR) of the panels was reduced slightly.Combustion speed was reduced to 0 mm/min while char yield and limiting oxygen index (LOI) were increased. When weight gain rate of the panels reached 43.9%,the sample's LOI was 27.84%,which met the requirement of the National Standard GB 50222-1995 (2001) for the B2 grade.
