The Inhibitory Effect and Mechanism of Trichoderma virens NY45 on Wood Rotting Fungi
To develop biocontrol of decay in wood, the antagonistic fungi Trichoderma virens,NY45 strain was studied of its inhibitory effect and mechanism on the white rot fungi Trametes versicolor(Tv)and the brown rot fungi Gloeophyllum trabeum(Gt).The results showed that NY45 had a significant inhibitory effect on both types of rotting fungi. The decay resistance grade of Populus tomentosa treated with NY45 spore solution had improved from stage Ⅳ(not decay resistant)to stage I(strongly decay resistant)through laboratory tests.NY45 grew much faster than the wood rotting fungi,so that it prioritize getting the growth space and nutrition of Potato Dextrose Agar culture medium.Mechanistic study showed that NY45 mycelium parasitizes, covers, and disintegrates the wood rotting fungi mycelium. Its volatile substances inhibited Tv and Gt by 18.55%and 45.69%,respectively.Furthermore,the inhibition rates of its non-volatile metabolites on both rot fungi exceeded 90%.NY45 has the potential to be further developed and utilized as a biocontrol fungus against wood decay.
