An Androgynous Interpretation of the C-E Translation of Brocade Valley
Brocade Valley,a Chinese feminist novel written by Wang Anyi, depicts the female's new sense of self in a love affair.Analysis of the English translation of this contemporary Chinese female literature from the perspective of"androgyny"aims at exploring how the translator manifests the female consciousness of the source text and conveys the author's intention.Bonnie S.McDougall and Chen Maiping,co-translators of the English version, present their androgynous perspective, empathize with the heroine, and adopt addition,ex-plicitation and adjustment to reproduce the feminist consciousness of the source text, which demonstrates a rela-tion of"androgyny"between the source text and the target text, namely interdependence and harmony with differences.
