Why Does the Pain Linger——Time-Space Transformation in Ozick's The Shawl
The Shawl is a milestone work in Cynthia Ozick's literary writing career.This paper analyzes Rosa's injury process with the aid of the trauma theory and points out that Rosa's unspeakable pain of losing her daughter is the cause of her trauma symptoms;By analyzing the narrative of TimeSpace Transformation in the short story,this paper explores that trauma invades the daily life of the injured in the form of excessive asso-ciation and flashback,causing the pain to linger.Ozick's postmodern narrative shows the mechanism of Rosa's trauma,and it is of great significance for speaking and healing of survivors'pain in the Holocaust.
