A Research on Categorical Characteristics and Cross-class Phenomena of Verbal Quantifier"Tang"Based on Motion Event Structure
The original meaning of"tang"is"jump",which is a motion movement.Therefore,based on the motion event structure theory,three elements of"motion""path"and"mode"are selected as parameters to ana-lyze the categorical characteristics of"tang",and its categorical characteristics are summarized as[+spatial][+motional][+mode][+reciprocating][+natural termination point],the categorical features restrict its syntactic expression.As a cross-class quantifier,the quantifier"tang"has evolved into a collective and individ-ual quantifying usage,which is metaphorically projected from the image schema formed by spatial displacement events.As a quantifier,it shows characteristics such as[+linear][+bounded length]when referring to indi-vidual or collective entities.
