Research on Political Speech Discourse Translation Based on Systemic Functional Linguistics Theory——Take Wang Yi's Speech at the 2023 Symposium on International
Based on the theory of Systemic Functional Linguistics of Halliday,this study explores the translation strategies of political discourse from the perspective of interpersonal functions(including mood,mo-dality and appraisal),using Foreign Minister Wang Yi's political speech discourse as the basis.By analyzing the speech functions of the specific mood in the original text,the semantic elements of the translation can be deter-mined.Translating the modality resources of the original text into non-modal resources can enhance the posi-tive interpersonal function of the translation.Depending on the specific context,the omission or addition of atti-tude resources and graduation resources in the appraisal system not only conforms to English norms but also a-chieves equivalent interpersonal functions.Flexible translation of mood,modality,and appraisal resources helps achieve equivalent interpersonal and social functions in the translation,promotes friendly communication be-tween countries,and enhances the positive image of China.
