A Study of English Translation of Classical Chinese Poetry from the Perspective of Relevance Translation Theory——Taking Selected Poems of Bai Juyi Translated by Xu Yuanchang as an Example
Relevance translation theory defines translation as an ostensive-inferential interpretative activity within or between languages,which is a kind of linguistic communicative behavior,revealing the essential at-tributes of linguistic communication within a monoculture.Taking the translation of Bai Juyi's classic poems as an example,this paper makes a detailed analysis of the application of optimal relevance,cognitive context and communicative intention in the translation of classical Chinese poetry,and finds that relevance translation theory has strong guiding significance and literary appreciation value for the translation of classical Chinese poetry.When translating classical Chinese poetry,translators can make more use of relevance translation theory to bet-ter interpret the cultural connotation of Chinese poetry,disseminate excellent traditional culture,and enhance cross-cultural communication.
