Correlation between beliefs and successful aging in 325 hypertensive patients
Objective To describe the health beliefs and successful aging status of middle-aged and elderly hypertensive pa-tients in Wuhu City,Anhui Province and to analyze the correlation between health beliefs and successful aging.Methods A question-naire survey using the General Information Questionnaire,Hypertension Health Belief Scale and Successful Aging Scale was used to con-duct a cross-sectional study of 325 hospitalized middle-aged and elderly hypertensive patients in Wuhu City.Results The total score of health beliefs of 325 middle-aged and elderly hypertensive patients was(77.89±8.73),with the dimensions ranked from highest to lowest as follows:self-efficacy,perceived benefits of action,perceived severity,perceived sensitivity,perceived barriers to action,and perceived socio-economics.Total score of successful aging was(48.97±6.87).The total score of health beliefs of middle-aged and eld-erly hypertensive patients was positively correlated with the total score of successful aging(r=0.266,P<0.01).Conclusion Middle-aged and old-aged hypertensive patients have a moderate level of successful aging scores and health beliefs are one of the factors affect-ing successful aging.
