The evolution of theoretical discourses on cultural and media imperialism, the swift advancement of digital technologies, and the resurgence of the"new imperialism"debate since the latter half of the 20th century have collectively facilitated the development of digital imperialism theory.According to this theory, the growth of digital platforms post-2010,the monopolization of digital technologies and data resources by transnational dig-ital capital, and the shift of capital accumulation space from physical to virtual, all signify a new phase of con-temporary imperialism. However, this paper argues that these new features neither encompass the comprehen-sive structure of contemporary imperialism, nor do they fundamentally differ from those exhibited since the 1980s during the information technology revolution and neoliberal globalization. While the digital economy has indeed imparted a new and significant dimension to contemporary imperialism,Marxist political economy needs to undertake a thorough and insightful study of the role of digital technology in global monopoly capital accumu-lation,and to understand the characteristics and laws of imperialism in virtual spaces.Nonetheless,it is pre-mature to assert that imperialism has entered a new phase.
