Ink is an essential tool in traditional Chinese literati culture and has evolved alongside the development of Chinese calligraphy and painting into an art medium with distinct cultural characteristics.The production of Hui ink dates back to ancient times,renowned for its exquisite craftsmanship and often described as"as black as lacquer,as enduring as eternity".Zhou Meihong,a representative inheritor of the national intangible cultural heritage project for the craftsmanship of Hui ink production,has dedicated many years to studying and mastering the traditional techniques,emphasizing both inheritance and innovation.He tirelessly promotes the Hui ink culture.Today,we visit Lao Hu Kai Wen Ink Factory in She County,Anhui Province,where we invite Zhou Meihong to discuss the craftsmanship and contemporary inheritance of Hui ink.
