Writing with Intentions and Forgetting the Images-Comments on Yue Haitao's Oil Paintings on Opera Figures
Opera-figure-themed oil paintings had already shown initial signs as early as the beginning of the 20th century.This was the beginning of the"combination of Chinese and Western"and"Chinese essence and Western application"in opera figure oil paintings.This article explores the oriental cultural artistic conception and artistic value behind the works by discussing the creative process,freehand techniques and the aesthetic concepts dominated by"vitality and rhythm"and"attaining the essence and disregarding the form"of Professor Yue Haitao from the Academy of Fine Arts of Shandong Normal University in his more than twenty years of creating opera oil paintings.
