A Study on the Decorative Art and Cultural Function of Stele Pavilions in Sichuan and Chongqing from the Mid-Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China
The decorative arts of stele archways in Sichuan and Chongqing from the mid-Qing to the Republic of China have increasingly captured attention for their unique aesthetic value and folk symbolism.A question of concern is,in the special back groud of immigration from Huguang Fill Sichuan, the stele archways, originally constructed by diverse immigrants following their own customs, seemingly share a consistent decorative system and develop a distinctively temporal and regional artistic style.Based on extensive fieldwork and literature review, these stele archway decorative arts are seen as cultural artifacts that facilitated communication, exchange, and integration among immigrants.Leveraging a common ancestral worship among immigrants from various regions and employing a decorative logic of"ornamental display-interpreting patterns-narrating themes",they developed a system that expresses shared cultural symbols, thereby fostering a stronger sense of collective identity among immigrants and their descendants.
