Analysis of the Dimensional Design in the Artistic Modeling of the Puxian Pavilion
The Puxian Pavilion of Shanhua Temple is an important wooden structure of the Song,Liao and Jin Dynasties. Its artistic form is exquisite, and well-proportioned,and the underlying dimensional control is crucial for revealing the design methods and construction history of it,as well as for exploring the design principles and craftsmanship lineage of Liao and Jin architecture in northern Shanxi. On the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the investigation of Puxian Pavilion by the Society for Research in Chinese Architecture, this paper re-analyzes dimensional design of the Puxian Pavilion, initially discusses the regional and period characteristics of the dimensional design, and puts forward a set of new hypotheses based on the latest scanning data and previous research results.
