Fatigue life analysis of excavator boom based on EDEM-ADAMS coupling
The excavating boom is subjected to complex forces and variable loads during the excavation process.It is difficult to obtain the load spectrum of the articulation point using actual measurement.To determine the fatigue life accurately under real working conditions,we employed the discrete element principle and EDEM-ADAMS coupled simulation method to analyze the excavation process of the excavator under different conditions.Firstly,the load spectrum of each articulation point of the excavating boom was obtained under the working conditions of excavating different medium and eccentric loads;The stress and strain distribution of the excavator boom was then determined under different excavation conditions using Workbench software.The minimum fatigue life of the boom was calculated under various working conditions using the S-N fatigue life analysis method in combination with Ncode software.Additionally,areas prone to fatigue damage were identified for the excavator boom.The excavator boom fatigue life analysis accuracy was improved using accurate material models under different working conditions.Through the finite element analysis,the accuracy of the dynamic boom load spectrum was verified,and the accuracy of the fatigue life analysis of the excavator boom was improved.The research results can provide a basis for the reliability design of the excavator boom.
