Objective To determine the association between uric acid levels and carotid intima-media thick-ness(CIMT)in patients with obstructive sleep-apnoea hypopnea syndrome(OSAHS).Methods One hundred and sixteen patients who underwent polysomnography at the Shiyan Renmin Hospital from January 2020 to August 2021 were selected.Carotid artery ultrasonography was performed on all patients.Patients were divided into OSAHS and control groups based on the apnea-hypopnea index(AHI).The OSAHS group was further divided into mild, moderate, and severe OSAHS groups. The CIMT,traditional risk fac-tors,blood lipid, and renal function were compared between the two groups.Pearsonanalysis was used to determine the relationship between the uric acid level and CIMT.Results The following were significantly different between the OSAHS and control groups:AHI;lowest SaO2;uric acid level;body mass index(BMI);and low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol concentration. There was a statistically significant difference in AHI,BMI,uric acid level, and CIMT among patients with mild, moderate, and severe OSAHS(P<0.05).Pearsonanalysis demonstrated that CIMT was positively associated with the uric acid level and AHI(r=0.608,0.312,allP<0.05).Conclusions As the uric acid level increases, the severity of OSAHS increases and correlates with CIMT thickening. The serum uric acid level should be monitored in OSAHS patients to guide intervention in a timely fashion.
