Objective To analyze the influence of the main metal elements in blood on pulmonary artery pressure in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM).Methods A total of 158 patients(89 males and 69 females)with T2DM who were treated in the Department of Endocrinology(Sinopharm Dongfeng General Hospital of Shiyan City)recorded the content of serum metal elements, blood glucose levels, and pulmonary artery pressures for correlation regression analysis.Patients were divided into two subgroups using the echocardiographic normal pulmonary artery pressure value(≤35 mmHg,1 mmHg=0.133 kPa)as the cut-off value to compare the magnitude of the calcium and zinc values between the two groups. Results Univariate linear regression analysis showed that the calcium level was associated with the 2-hour plasma glucose(2hPG)level in T2DM patients(P=0.003),and age and calcium level in T2DM patients were positively correlated with pulmonary artery pressure changes(P<0.05).Multivariate regression analysis showed that after excluding the influence of age, disease course, gender, the calcium content in T2DM patients remained related to 2hPG.The calcium level also remained the main reason affecting changes in the pulmo-nary artery pressure;however, the zinc level may be an influencing factor.Other variables, such as magne-sium,iron,lead,and copper, were not associated with changes in the pulmonary artery pressure. The zinc, and calcium content in subgroups 1 and 2 were not significantly different(P>0.05).Conclusions Blood cal-cium and zinc levels are shown to be factors influencing pulmonary artery pressure in T2DM patients.
