A survey and analysis on the correlation between smoking behavior and cognition and attitude towards tobacco among middle school students in Haidian District,Beijing
Objective To investigate the smoking behavior and cognition towards tobacco among middle school students in Haidian District,Beijing,and analyze the correlation between smoking behavior and their cognition and attitude towards tobacco,in order to provide reference for smoking control work among middle school students.Methods Students from some high schools in Haidian District,Beijing in 2019 were selected as the research subjects,and the questionnaire for survey on tobacco prevalence among adolescents in China in 2019 was filled out,and the data was analyzed using SPSS 22.0.Results The attempted smoking rate was 8.81%(58/658),and the current smoking rate is 2.58%(17/658).Among the smoking students,29.41%(5/17)were dependent on tobacco.72.95%(480/658)of students had correct cognition for the harm of second-hand smoke,and 65.05%(428/658)of students believed that smoking reduces attractive-ness,and 82.22%(541/658)of students believed that smoking in social settings made people uncomfort-able,and 30.70%(202/658)of students believed that quitting smoking was definitely difficult.Multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that the cognition of smoking reduced attractiveness(OR=0.383,95%CI:0.195-0.754)and smoking in social settings made people uncomfortable(OR=0.321,95%CI:0.155-0.665)were the main factors affecting the attempted smoking rate.Believing that smoking in social settings makes people feel more comfortable(OR=3.971,95%CI:1.155-13.646)or less comfortable(OR=0.103,95%CI:0.022-0.480)is a contributing factor to current smoking rates.Believing that second-hand smoke is definitely harmless is a hazard factor affecting tobacco dependence rate(OR=31.553,95%CI:1.522-653.989).Conclusions Middle school students'cognition and attitude towards tobacco can affect smoking behavior,and it is necessary to strengthen the promotion and education of tobacco knowledge to guide middle school students to have correct tobacco cognition.
