The role of alveolar macrophages in acute lung injury
Acute lung injury(ALI)is a common critical disease, characterized by initial lung inflammation and increased vascular permeability, eventually progressing to acute respiratory distress syndrome(ARDS).Alveolar macrophages are important for maintaining lung homeostasis as the body's first line of defense against pathogenic microbial infections. This paper firstly describes the diverse biological functions of lung macrophages in various stages of ALI and disease progression by polarizing into different biological phenotypes.Secondly,we summarized the mechanism of macrophage biological functions such as pyroptosis, autophagy, metabolism, and repair in ameliorating lung injury, promoting lung repair, and influencing prognosis,so as to provide ideas for the clinical use of macrophage pathway to intervene or treat ALI.
