Exploring Deng Xiao-ping's Thought on the Role of the Media in Constructive Criticism
The statement by Deng Xiao-ping in 1980 that Party newspapers,Party periodicals and other media should play the role of"constructive criticism"boasts its scientific, realistic and instructive nature. With rich and profound connotations,Deng's proposal includes guarding the space for healthy social expression and fully recognizing the inherent necessity of constructive criticism. At present, the subversive changes in information and communication technology have brought about a complete change of all aspects in the public opinion of human society, which makes it even more necessary for the society to have the positive voices of constructive criticism. Therefore, more attention should be paid to the theoretical and ideological implications of Deng Xiao-ping's statement on the role of the media in constructive criticism, rather than to the"constructive journalism"in the West.
