Mao Ze-dong's View of the USA During the Liberation War and Its Implication
When Mao Ze-dong was leading the Chinese people in the War of Liberation,he formed a series of basic arguments about the relationship with and the struggle against the United States, such as"American imperialism is a paper tiger";to carry out a"revolution in the middle zone"as the U.S.was invading the area;and the U.S.politicians misinterpreted China's New Democratic Revolution from a view of historical idealism. These arguments basically capture the essence of Sino-U.S.relations and embody the following characteristics:the nationalist value orientation of safeguarding national interests and defending national sovereignty;the revolutionary thinking of comprehensively examining the United States from the perspective of communism;the pragmatic spirit of starting from the reality;and the focus on addressing problems from the perspective of historical materialism. These basic arguments, along with the value orientation of nationalism and communism, pragmatism, and philosophical thinking embedded in them, are useful for us to further deepen our understanding of Sino-U.S.relations and deal with the complex and volatile relations between China and the U.S.nowadays.
