Numerical simulation of lane restriction measure for trucks in a long tunnel section:a case study of Jiaodong'ao Tunnel on the Ningbo-Dongguan Expressway in China
A two-lane cellular automaton traffic model with a long tunnel is proposed based on the analysis of actual measured traffic data,in which a new boundary condition and the influence range of trucks on cars are adopted. The simulation results are compared with the measured data, and they are in good agreement with each other. It indicates that the improved traffic model can effectively simulate the characteristics of traffic flow with a long tunnel section.Numerical simulations show that the presence of trucks increases the probability of congestion in the tunnel section, and this effect increases with the proportion of trucks. In order to reduce the negative impact of trucks on traffic flow in tunnel section, the measure of lane restriction for trucks is proposed, and the numerical simulation is carried out.It is shown that vehicles'speeds in the left lane increase when the measure of lane restriction for trucks is adopted, and vehicles'speeds in the right lane will increase when the injection is large.Especially,in the case of high proportion of trucks, speeds increase significantly.Large speeds lead to high traffic flow. The research can be used as a theoretical reference for the management of traffic flow on the highway with long tunnels.
