Astaxanthin(AXT)is a lutein carotenoid with various pharmacological and biological activities,including antioxidant,anti-inflammatory,anti-tumor,and neurological and cardiovascular system protection.AXT has become a high-demand natural product.Increasing evidence has suggested that AXT was effective for the treatment of female reproductive system impairment caused by polycystic ovary syndrome,ovarian cancer,endometriosis,and reproductive system inflammation.AXT has also been shown to increase the success rate of assisted reproductive therapy.In addition,AXT has been demonstrated great advantages in the prevention and treatment of various perinatal diseases such as preeclampsia and gestational diabetes.Here,we review the latest progress in the therapeutic effects of AXT and the underlying mechanism.
