Stance of American Media in Reports on China's Carbon Neutrality Based on Appraisal Theory
To reveal the intention of American media, promote the international carbon neutrality cause, and protect the ecological environment, the present paper, taking the attitude system of appraisal theory as the framework, adopting the corpus-based method using the corpus processing tools of Ant Conc and UAM CT,and taking the reports of the mainstream media in the United States on China's carbon neutrality as the corpus, studied the stance of the American mainstream media(The New York Times,The Washington Post,etc.).Research found that judgement resources were the most in the attitude system. The positive tendency of social esteem resources was more than the negative tendency, and the negative tendency of social sanction was more than the positive tendency. The stance of American media could be seen from judgement resources.American media believed that China was incompetent, immoral and not credible, but the behavior was normal and persistent.Whether positive or negative,American media reports reflected the values of American centralism and the discourse hegemony of America.
