A Study of Liu Chang's Native Place,Secondary Personal Name and Family Ranking in the Northern Song Dynasty
Liu Chang made significant contributions in the fields of literature,Confucian classics,historiography,and epigraphy during the Northern Song Dynasty.His status and contributions have garnered widespread attention in academic circles.However,some basic facts about Liu Chang's life,including his place of origin,secondary personal name,and family ranking,still require further research.Scholars often briefly mention Liu Chang as"a native of Linjiang Xinyu"and"secondary personal name Yuanfu"without examining the different accounts recorded in historical documents.According to research,Liu Chang was from Dixia,Zhuoxiu Township,Xinyu County,Linjiang Prefecture,which is now Dixia,Huangtugang Town,Zhangshu City,Jiangxi Province.Liu Chang's secondary personal name was"Zhongyuanfu",with"Yuan"as the main character.The format followed was:first,the ranking among brothers,then associated with his given name,and finally,the honorific suffix"fu"or"fu".Liu Chang had one elder brother,Yuanqing,who passed away early;three younger brothers,Ban,Zhenqing,and Fang;one elder sister,and three younger sisters.He was the second son of Liu Lizhi,with a clan rank of ten.
