Digital Economy and Energy Consumption Structure:Intrinsic Mechanism and Empirical Test
Based on the panel data of 30 provinces(autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the central government)in China from 2011 to 2022,this study examines the impact effect and mechanism of digital economy on energy consumption structure. The research finds that the digital economy can significantly optimize the energy consumption structure, and this optimization effect has a marginal diminishing trend and spatial spillover effect.Industrial structure upgrading and green technology innovation are the main transmission mechanisms for the digital economy to play a role.In the industrial structure upgrading mechanism, the degree of industrial structure sophistication plays a greater role than the rationalization of industrial structure. In the green technology innovation mechanism, substantive green technology innovation plays a major role. The optimization effect of the digital economy varies under different degrees of government intervention and environmental regulation intensity. To accelerate the low-carbon transformation of the energy consumption structure, the government should continuously promote the construction of the digital economy system, industrial structure upgrading and green technology innovation, and at the same time strengthen environmental regulation and the inter-provincial and cross-regional energy cooperation mechanism.
