Optimization of Purification Process for Crude Tea Saponin
Crude tea saponin was extracted from defatted Camellia oleifera meal in northern Guangdong by ethanol solution.Crude tea saponin was purified using calcium oxide as a precipitant and ammonium bicarbonate as a conversion agent. The effects of calcium oxide addition, precipitation reaction time, ammonium bicarbonate addition, and conversion time on the purity of tea saponin were investigated through single factor and orthogonal experiments. The experimental results showed that the optimal process conditions for purifying crude tea saponin were as follows:the amount of calcium oxide added was 14%of the mass of Camellia oleifera meal, the precipitation time was 2 h,the amount of ammonium bicarbonate added was twice the mass of calcium oxide, and the conversion time was 1 h.Under these conditions, the purity of tea saponins could reach 68.10%.
