Environment for implementation of prescriptive authority for nurses in China:a SWOT analysis
Objective To analyze the internal and external environments for the implementation of prescriptive authority for nurses in China,to clarify its internal strengths and weaknesses,external opportunities and threats,and to put forward suggestions for further promoting prescriptive authority for nurses.Methods The environment for the implementation of prescriptive authority for nurses in China was analyzed by collecting information such as relevant policy documents and literature.A SWOT(Strengths,Weaknesses,Opportunities,and Threats)analysis was used to analyze the implementation environment for prescriptive authority for nurses,and suggestions were proposed.Results Currently,the advantages of implementing prescribing rights for nurses in China included the development of nursing specialty clinics and the accumulation of nursing talents in specialties;weaknesses included imperfect legal policies and the limitations of nurses themselves;opportunities mainly included the attention from government,consensus of experts,and advances in theoretical and practical research;and weaknesses referred to insufficient educational preparation and the resistance from relevant interest groups.Conclusion In line with the realities,China should promote the cultivation of nursing talent in parallel,strengthen the legislation to provide legal basis for the implementation of prescriptive authority for nurses,build an interest community for medical personnel,gradually expand the pilot areas of prescribing right for nurses and innovate the implementation mechanism of prescriptive authority for nurses in China.
