Assessment tools for oral frailty:a scoping review
Objective To analyze oral frailty assessment tools both internationally and domestically, and to provide reference for the screening of oral frailty in the elderly in China. Methods We searched CNKI,VIP,CBM databases,Wanfang,Chinese Medical Journal Full-text Database,PubMed,CINAHL,Web of Science,DOSS and Embaseto identify relevant studies, and the retrieval period spanned from the inception to June 5,2023.Two researchers worked independently to extract the information and evaluated the literature by using COSMIN checklist. Results Totally 14 articles were included, including 8 oral frailty assessment tools. The most frequent items in the evaluation tools are chewing difficulty and swallowing difficulty. Conclusion The assessment tools for oral frailty predominantly originate from international sources, and there is a limited amount of relevant research conducted in China. Many of these tools lack proper testing for reliability and validity. Therefore, there is a need to introduce or develop assessment tools specifically for clinical applications in order to accurately identify oral frailty in the elderly at an early stage.
