Effects of four-step high enema intervention in preterm infants with delayed meconium expulsion
Objective To investigate the effect of four-step high enema on delayed meconium discharge in premature infants. Methods A total of 63 premature infants with delayed meconium discharge who were hospitalized in the neonatal ward of a tertiary grade-A general hospital in Shanxi Province from November 2020 to April 2023 were selected as the research objects. They were divided into control group(n=31)and observation group(n=32)by random number table method.Routine enema was performed in the control group, and four-step high enema in the observation group. The effective rate of enema, the quality of first defecation, the time of exhausting meconium and the total number of enema were observed and compared between the two groups. Results The effective rate of enema in the observation group was higher than that in the control group(P<0.05),and the quality of first defecation in the observation group was significantly higher than that in the control group(P<0.001).The time of meconium evacuation in the observation group was shorter than that in the control group(P<0.05),and the total number of enema in the observation group was significantly less than that in the control group(P<0.001).Conclusion The application of four-step high enema can improve the effective rate of enema in premature infants with delayed meconium discharge, increase the quality of first defecation, shorten the time of complete meconium discharge, and reduce the total number of enema.
