Knowledge,attitudes,and behaviors of nurses in Shanghai nursing homes regarding incontinence-associated dermatitis:a qualitative study
Objective To understand the knowledge,attitudes,and behaviors of nurses in Shanghai nursing homes regarding incontinence-associated dermatitis,and to provide reference for subsequent clinical practice.Methods Purposive sampling and phenomenological research method in qualitative research were used.Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 11 nurses from 3 nursing homes in Shanghai,and the interview data were analyzed and thematic extraction was performed using the Colaizzi seven-step analysis method.Results Three themes and six sub-themes were extracted from three dimensions:knowledge(inadequate understanding of the latest research,fewer approaches to acquiring knowledge,incomplete assessment tools,poor cognition);attitudes(relatively positive);behaviors(further improvement of behaviors required).Conclusion It is necessary to improve the competence of nurses in nursing homes in terms of knowledge,attitudes,and behaviors regarding incontinence-associated dermatitis,which can be achieved by enhancing their understanding of the latest research and the use of assessment tools,carrying out various forms of incontinence-related dermatitis training and cultivating nurses with diversified expertise,thus to lay a foundation for the development of training programs on incontinence-related dermatitis for nurses in the nursing institute..
