The Innovation Spillover Effect of Digital Product Imports
In the context of the digital economy's ongoing globalization and China's comprehensive implementation of the in-novation-driven development strategy, this paper comprehensively examines the intra-industry and inter-industry innovation spillover effect of digital product imports on manufacturing firms. The study finds that, from the intra-industry spillover effect, digital product imports significantly promote firm innovation within the industry through the factor allocation optimization ef-fect,value chain participation effect, and cost saving effect, and that this innovation spillover is captured more by non-state enterprises, firms in medium and high technology level industries and firms in regions with a high concentration of innovative talents. From the inter-industry spillover effect, digital product imports promote the innovation of downstream enterprises through the intermediate goods input effect, but they can have a negative impact on upstream firms'innovation by limiting market size.Further research reveals that the intra-industry structural effect caused by inter-firm resource reallocation is an important approach for digital product imports to improve the overall level of manufacturing innovation. The study provides more in depth evidence for assessing the innovation spillover effect of digital product imports, which will be useful for China in rationalizing the use of global high-end factors and innovation resources, optimizing the industry-linked spillover mecha-nism of digital product imports, and accelerating innovation-driven development in the global digital wave.
