Properties of silica sol-phenolic resin co-bonded Al2O3-SiC-C bricks
To mitigate the structural deterioration of Al2O3-SiC-C bricks induced by phenolic resin carboni-zation and enhance their mechanical properties and slag resistance, silica sol-phenolic resin co-bonded Al2O3-SiC-C bricks were prepared using bauxite(5-3,3-1 and ≤1 mm)as aggregates, white fused co-rundum(≤0.045 mm),SiC(≤0.075 mm),α-Al2O3 micropowder and flake graphite(≤0.15 mm)as the matrix, and thermosetting phenolic resin and silica sol as the binders.Based on the extra addition of 4.5 mass%phenolic resin, the effects of the silica sol extra addition(mass fractions of 0,0.45%,0.90%and 1.35%,respectively)on the cold and hot mechanical properties and slag resistance of the bricks were investigated. The results show that an appropriate addition of silica sol can effectively improve the mechani-cal properties and slag resistance of the Al2O3-SiC-C bricks, and the specimen with 0.45%silica sol per-forms excellent cold and hot mechanical properties and slag resistance.
