Study on preparation and stability of a modified binder used between highway layers
To avoid slippage of the highway surface layer and the base layer, and improve the bonding quality be-tween the road surface layer and the base layer,a bonding agent between the road surface layer and the base layer was prepared, and its stability was analyzed.Adhesion specimens between road surface and base layers were pre-pared using matrix asphalt,SBS modified asphalt, and SBR modified asphalt. The stability of each specimen was tested through UV aging test, thermal stability test, shear test, and other methods to evaluate the quality of the adhe-sive.The test results show that the penetration of the base asphalt varied greatly under high temperature conditions, and it could not maintain good ductility and kinematic viscosity. Its thermal stability was poor, and its low-tempera-ture resistance was weak.Although SBR modified asphalt could achieve good stability at high temperatures, its shear and rutting resistance were lower than those of SBS modified asphalt binder.SBS modified asphalt could main-tain good stability in different temperature environments, and it could still maintain a shear strength of 0.135 MPa at 60℃.Therefore,SBS modified asphalt binder is more suitable for bonding between road surface and base layers.
