The trend of individuation in modem society brings great challenges to social unity.How to realize the harmonious unity between the group and the self is a project that must be properly dealt with to promote Chinese modernization.Confucian insight on the relationship between the group and the self is based on the primary social relationship,which takes root in the daily life of ordi-nary people.Based on the world view and methodology of historical materialism,Marxist insight on the relationship between the group and the self scientifically reveals the development law of their rela-tionship and the path of individual liberation.The two insights have similar theoretical purpose:to pur-sue the soundness and safety of individuals,defend the group value,and realize the unity between the group and the self.They can complement and integrate with each other in function playing,form of existence,and theoretical level,and provide theoretical guidance for realizing organic unity in modern society.
