Time Dilemma and Time Management for Postgraduate Students
With the increasing size of postgraduate students in China,an array of complaints related to this group have attracted public attention,which can be attributed to various time-related puzzles and confu-sions.Several factors contribute to their time dilemma.Firstly,postgraduate students are not only confronted with numerous tasks such as exams,theses and projects,resulting in their time becoming an extension of their supervisors'time,but also their use of time is often monitored by the clocking technology.Secondly,different kinds of time management lead to either"involution"or"lying flat".Finally,those who are free from busy schedules find themselves confronted by an intractable dilemma of"endless leisure".Postgraduate stu-dents can adopt a variety of strategies to address their time dilemma.In the face of the dilemma between ex-ams and courses,four strategies can be found to manage their time.When confronted with the encroachment of public time on private time,they answer with the privatization of public time.When facing the difficulty of the"second shift",they resort to the reconstruction of meaning.As to the dilemma of"endless leisure",they will conduct different activities to fill their leisure time.
