Research on the Spatial Morphological Evolution and Adaptive Development of Traditional Villages from the Perspective of Complex Adaptive Systems Theory:A Case Study of Zhuge Village in Zhejiang
The spatial layout of traditional villages has undergone a lengthy evolutionary journey throughout history, resulting in a diverse array of types and characteristics. This study adopts the complex adaptive system theory as a framework to elucidate the traits of traditional villages as complex adaptive systems. It examines their adaptability within the context of morphological composition and spatial evolution.By analyzing the historical evolutionary trajectory, spatial morphological features, behavioral patterns of the subjects, and adaptive mechanisms of Zhuge Village, the study uncovers the hierarchical clustering of subjects that demonstrates the coordinated response of the multi-subject systems to external environmental changes.Based on the active or passive adaptive behaviors that emerge from the clustering of subjects across different historical periods,in line with the principles of evolution, the study summarizes the factors influencing the evolution of the existing complex adaptive system. It proposes a new approach for optimizing traditional villages as complex adaptive systems, formulates new adaptive strategies to enhance the systematic evolution of traditional villages, and investigates the laws and characteristics of traditional village evolution from a novel perspective. The aim is to facilitate the orderly advancement of the adaptive development of traditional village systems.
