Beware of Several Problems in Ex-situ Protection of Yangtze Finless Porpoise
Ex-situ conservation is one of the most important measures in biological conservation. The ex-situ conservation measure of moving small cetacean from main stream of the Yangtze River to its oxbow was first explored by chinese scientists and has been proved effective. This study reviewed the process of small cetacean over the past 30 years and analyzed the common problems, such as hydrodynamics environment, food resources and routine management.Recommendations were put forward according to the results. The study hope that these recommendations can be seriously considered by managers and scientific research can be strengthened to ensure sustainable development of small cetacean ex-situ conservation.
