There are a large number of colloquial terms in the Qing Dynasty's Archives of Nanbu County.The terms prevent modern readers from better reading and understanding of the archives of Nanbu County.Terms like gai lou,long dui,gun dang,jin po,and mo to,are perplexing.After contextual analysis and references to related literatures,the meanings of the five terms mentioned above can be determined.Gai lou refers to altering contracts to evade taxes.Long dui means vaguely accumulate.Gun dang denotes evil companions.Jin po signifies all the slope soil.And mo ta translates to delaying and ob-structing(something).
