Effect of childhood trauma on self-injury behavior in adolescents with depression:the mediating role of depression and social support
Objective:To explore the mediating effect of depression and social support between childhood traumat-ic experience and self-injury behavior in adolescents with depression.Methods:A total of 214 adolescent patients with depression who first visited the First Hospital of Hebei Medical University were selected as the research ob-jects.Using the General Situation Questionnaire,Childhood Trauma Questionnaire,Adolescent Self-Harm Ques-tionnaire,Self-Rating Depression Scale,Social Support Rate Scale,the relationship of childhood trauma,depres-sion,social support,and self-harm was analyzed.Results:(1)The self-injury score of female adolescents with depression was significantly higher than that of male adolescents(P<0.05).(2)The total score of childhood trau-ma was positively correlated with depression and self-injury scores(r =0.256,0.396,all P<0.05).Depression score was positively correlated with self-injury score(r =0.477,P<0.05).Social support score was negatively correlated with childhood trauma,depression and self-injury score(r =-0.340,-0.376,-0.523,all P<0.05).(3)The total score of childhood trauma,social support and depression score had predictive effects on self-injury(F =46.972,P<0.001),which could explain 39.3%of the variance.(4)Depression and social support played a partial mediating effect between childhood trauma and self-injury,accounting for 20.1%and 40.2%of the total effect,respectively.Conclusion:Depression and social support play a dual role in mediating the relation-ship between childhood traumatic experience and self-injury behavior in adolescents with depression.
