Current status of monkeypox cognition and associated factors among young students in Wuxi city
Objective:To understand the current status of monkeypox cognition and associated factors among young students in Wuxi city.Methods:In October 2023,a cross-sectional survey was carried out in a junior col-lege in Wuxi,China.The stratified random sampling method was adopted to select participants,and the sample size was estimated to be 812.A questionnaire was used to collect socio-demographic characteristics,behavior,and knowledge about monkeypox.Logistic regression model was used to analyze the associated factors with the awareness of monkeypox knowledge among young students.Results:The awareness rate of monkeypox knowledge was 35.5%among 818 young students.Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that the second grade(aOR=1.63,95%CI:1.08-2.44)or third grade(aOR=1.63,95%CI:1.08-2.44),having been abroad in past 6 months(aOR=2.87,95%CI:1.11-7.43),having participated in lectures on HIV/AIDS education(aOR=2.11,95%CI:1.32-3.37),paying attention to monkeypox occasionally(aOR=3.14,95%CI:2.09-4.73)or frequently(aOR=9.46,95%CI:4.20-21.34),agreeing that it was necessary to conduct monkeypox knowledge publicity lectures on the campus(aOR=1.67,95%CI:0.81-3.43),believing that monkeypox would be widely spread in China(aOR=1.83,95%CI:1.26-2.65)were associated factors with the awareness of monkeypox knowledge among young students.Conclusion:Although junior college students concern about and have some understanding of monkeypox,their awareness rate of monkeypox knowledge is still not high.Monkeypox knowledge publicity and education should be implemented closely with HIV/AIDS health education,especially strengthening the warning education on mon-keypox infection risk to improve the awareness of prevention and self-health monitoring among young students.
