Toxic Effects of Gestational Cadmium Exposure on the Maternal Kidneys
This study explored the toxic effects of low-dose maternal Cadmium(Cd)exposure on the kidneys of mice. The histologi-cal observation of kidneys of the Cd-exposed mice was performed by hematoxylin and eosin staining method. The mRNA levels and protein levels of inflammatory factors and apoptotic genes were detected by the quantitative real-time PCR and western blot meth-ods.The results showed that low-dose maternal Cd exposure can lead to renal structural changes, such as the increased number of the glomerulus cells, the slight swelling of the glomerulus, the mRNA and protein levels of Bax were significantly increased in the mater-nal kidneys of Cd-exposed groups. In summary,low-dose Cd exposure can lead to the structural damages of maternal kidneys, which is likely to be due to the increase in the expression levels of Bax.This study may provide basic data for disease research in animal husbandry.
