Effect of Iron on the Growth and Development of Maize Seedlings under Quartz sand Culture
The effect of iron on the growth and development of maize seedlings was studied by using quartz sand culture method.Physiological indexes such as above ground mass, underground mass, total mass, plant height, root length, number of root strips, leaf area and root-shoot ratio of maize seedlings were measured to explore the effect of iron deficiency on the growth and development of maize seedlings. The results showed that the height, total weight, root length and root shoot ratio of maize seedlings decreased due to iron deficiency, but the leaf area of maize seedlings was larger than that under iron supply condition.Iron deficiency could lead to yellowing of maize seedling leaves, but only in individual plants, the phenomenon was not significant.Iron nutrition can promote the growth and development of maize seedlings, but the phenomenon is not significant.
