Urban Renewal Promoted by Sports Venues:Driving Scenarios,China-US Comparisons,and Chinese Solutions
Sports venues are an important element of urban renewal and an important tool for implementing urban renewal actions.Through methods such as literature review,field investigation,expert interviews,and comparative research,the current study was conducted to investigate the promotion of urban renewal by sports venues.The study summarizes five types of driving scenarios for sports venues to promote urban renewal:the construction and upgrading of large sports venues,the reuse of industrial heritage through sports,the filling of the shortcomings of sports venues in old residential areas,the revitalization of commercial idle space through sports formats,and the activation of the city's inefficient space.Through a comprehensive comparative analysis of the background,purpose,mode,funding,operating entities and benefits of sports venues promoting urban renewal in China and the United States,a Chinese plan has been put forward to promot urban renewal,and the economic oriented renewal projects should give full play to the catalyst effect:integrate into urban planning,and drive regional joint renewal;broaden investment channels,and attract social forces to participate;enhance the efficiency of updates,and build sports service complex;take the road of micro-renewal,and protect cultural heritage;advocate participation of multiple operating entities,and improve the social governance.Moreover,renewal projects oriented towards people's livelihoods should address the shortcomings of public services:adhere to government guidance and incorporate them into practical projects related to people's livelihoods;provide financial support and encourage social capital investment;strengthen resident autonomy and achieve common creation goals;By leveraging urban renewal and filling the gaps in fitness facilities,we aim to provide theoretical basis and reference for exploring the Chinese path of sports venues promoting urban renewal.
