Effect of Skipping Exercise on Executive Function and EEG of Autistic Children:A Randomized Controlled Trial
Objective:To observe the intervention effect of rope skipping on the executive function of children with autism spectrum disorder(ASD)and explore the brain electrical mechanism. Methods:From May 2021 to September 2021,30 children with mild to moderate ASD from Xingmengyuan and Baobeiqin Rehabilitation Institutions in Huaibei City were randomly divided into intervention groups and control groups, with 15 cases in each group.During the intervention period,2 and 7 people were lost respectively, and 21 cases were finally included(13 people in the intervention group and 8 people in the control group). Both groups received routine rehabilitation in the institution, and the intervention group received additional skipping exercise intervention for 10 weeks,5 times a week,60 minutes each time.Extraneous varia-bles were symptom severity, sleep, diet, and physical fitness. Before and after the intervention, the executive function scale(CHEXI)and resting-state EEG relative power(δ and α bands)were used to evaluate. Results:There were significant differences in the total score of the CHEXI scale, the refreshing sub-function and the conversion sub-function before and after the intervention in the time x group interac-tion effect(P<0.05).Further simple effect analysis found that the total score of the CHEXI scale and the time of the conversion sub-function was significant(the post-test of the intervention group was lower than the pre-test,P<0.05).Resting state EEG relative power results:In the δ band,5 brain regions decreased after the intervention, including the left temporal lobe(P=0.036<0.05),right temporal lobe(P=0.027<0.05)and parietal lobe(P=0.006<0.01)was significantly reduced;in the α band, all brain regions showed an in-crease after the intervention, including the left temporal lobe(P=0.018<0.05),right temporal lobe(P=0.001<0.01),parietal lobe(P=0.012<0.05)and occipital lobe(P=0.021<0.05)was significantly increased. There is a significant positive correlation between the conversion sub-function and the FT7,F8,and T8 channels of the δ-band(r=0.888,r=0.936,r=0.944);there is a significant negative correlation with the FT7,F8,and O1 channels of the α-band(r=-0.940,r=-0.915,r=-0.922).Conclusion:This study observed that comprehensive rope skipping exercise intervention has an improvement effect on the executive functions of children with ASD,and there is a correlation between the improvement of external executive functions and the changes in relative EEG power. The changes in the relative power of resting-state EEG in children with ASD in the δ and α bands may be one of the intrinsic mechanisms of rope skipping exer-cise intervention in improving external executive function.
