On The Burlington Magazine and the Chinese Experience in British Formalist Aesthetics
The establishment of The Burlington Magazine coincided with a group of British scholars expressing disappointment with their overly scientific art, demonstrating a strong intention to understand non Western cultures. Therefore, from its inception, the magazine shifted its focus to modern art as well as non Western art.Influenced by the relationship between China and Britain in the 20th century,Chinese art has received widespread discussion and research, and its aesthetic characteristics different from Western art have influenced the discourse generation of British formalist aesthetics.
