The Culture of Cultivating Scholars with Guqin in the Tang Dynasty——A study on Dong Tinglan and Fang Guan's qin affairs
The culture of respecting and nurturing scholars has created a social and cultural tradition in ancient China that valued talents and honored virtuous officials.In the Tang Dynasty,the trend of nurturing scholars continued to prevail,and"qin enthusiasts"were a type of scholar.They were not only good at playing the qin,but also skilled in poetry and prose.They played the qin,composed poems,traveled,and taught the gu qin on a daily basis.They often had feelings of empathy with their masters.The main qin players recorded in the Tang Dynasty include Yao Jianji,Shi Jingshan,Dong Tinglan,He Ruoyi,Wang Jingao,etc.This article examines the life and qin affairs of the famous qin player Dong Tinglan during the Kaiyuan and Tianbao periods of the Tang Dynasty,as well as his interactions with Li Qi,Gao Shi,and others.It also examines the relationship between the dismissal of Prime Minister Fang Guan and Dong Tinglan.The reasons for Fang Guan's demotion were multifaceted,and the incident of rescuing Fang Guan was also a huge blow and devastation to Du Fu's life,career,and psychology.Dong Tinglan's guqin disciples included Zheng You,Du Shanren,and others.
