Yong Zhong is a bronze percussion instrument that was popular during the Two Zhou period and holds an important position in the development history of Chinese bronze instruments and the culture of ritual music. The academic community has always had different views on the origin of Yong Zhong, with some advocating for the"Northern Small Nao Theory"and the"Southern Big Nao Theory",while others advocate for the"Combination of the Two".Yong Zhong evolved from the Southern Big Nao,and the formation of its shape, decoration, seal script, zhengjian, rumei, xuan, and wo can be found in a clear evolution process in the South. Moreover, with the scarce copper resources in the Central Plains region at that time,it was difficult to cast bronze Yong Zhong that were more than ten times larger than the Northern Small Nao in size,in such large quantities, and consumed such a large amount of copper raw materials. The abundant copper resources in the southern region perfectly met the conditions for the emergence and formation of Yong Zhong.
